Chaos on the roads

Sir,
Hardly does any day pass when people whether passengers, drivers or pedestrians get killed on the roads in Jammu. While the most contributing factor is the tremendous increase in the number of vehicles  of all types  the size of the roads remaining the same, at the same time. Another contributing factor is unlinced drivers plying the vehicles, mostly two and four wheelers. It is also learnt that if one person in the household holds a valid licence others in the family using the same vehicle do not have a licence nor do they know about the traffic rules and the traffic discipline. It hardly needs to be emphasized that a number of defaulters are being booked and fined but why the malaise is seeming uncontrolled is a cause of worry.  Tragic accidents bring misery and tears to the immediate relatives and the survivors. Riding on two wheelers with two pillion riders , even more and then speeding away makes the on lookers wonder struck. The pedestrians get terrified.
A traffic official on conditions of anonymity said that the department has tremendous shortage of staff and then there are  charges  of receiving Chai Paani from the chronic defaulters, those whose papers are not complete or who do not possess vehicle fitness certificates. Most of two wheelers speed , blow horn alarmingly, do not wear helmets  while many vehicles emit pollution , smoke and carbons , gases, and other dangerous substances but that is seen as no offence.
Yours etc…..
