Srinagar, Oct 27: The diversion of traffic through Mughal road has turned major roads of South Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama district chaotic.
The dilapidated and narrow roads in the main towns of these twin districts have literally failed to cater thousands of vehicles crossing these towns every day due to major damages caused by last month’s floods to Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
The vehicles have to hang for hours in the peak hours every day near fruit Mandi Aarhama, Shopian and in the main town of Pulwama near Shaheed Park crossing as there is no alternative road.
The district administrations claim that they have been consistently regulating the traffic to ensure smooth flow of traffic movement during the peak hours but locals say the traffic jams on the road is chaotic.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Shopian told Excelsior that there was frequent traffic jam in the town but that was streamlined after putting men on work in the main places of the town.
Bhat said, the traffic jam was because of movement of heavy goods carrying vehicles that carry apple boxes to outside States from Aarhama fruit mandi. “The heavy movement of vehicles was the reason for traffic jam, which was sorted out by streamlining the traffic.
