JAMMU, July 5: In a remarkable achievement, Chayya Raina, a deaf woman from Jammu and Kashmir, awarded the 1st prize at 6th Murshidabad National Deaf Film Festival held in West Bengal.
This is proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir and a significant occasion for the deaf community across India.
Chayya’s victory in the Deaf Fashion Award Category is a testament to her talent and determination. Her success has brought pride to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and has set a benchmark for other to follow.
The festival was organised by the India Deaf Film Production, Kolkata and was sponsored by DVC, Eastern Coalfields Limited, India Power, NTPC and NHPC.
The event saw the participation of over 100 deaf individuals from various parts of the country, who shown their talents in short films.
Last time, the similar film festival was held at Jammu University in July 2023, and was organised by the Association of Deaf and Aphasic, Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, the general secretary of the association, Kamal Nain Bhan stated that preparations are already underway for the next film festival which is scheduled to be held in 2025.
“These events play a crucial role in boosting the morale of deaf children and adults, providing them with a platform to perform to showcase their talents and prove that disability is not a hindrance to success,” he added.
