JAMMU, Oct 23: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh today chaired a high level meeting here in which he took stock of the security situation in Jammu region, preparedness for Block Development Council election, situation on the borders, security of airports, railway stations, vital installations and winter preparedness.
The meeting was attended by Major General Sharad Kapur GoC 26 Infantry Division, Mukesh Singh IGP Jammu, Danesh Rana IGP Armed Jammu, NS Jamwal IGP BSF, Subhash Chander IGP CRPF, Manvendra DIG SSB, Nitu DIG CRPF, VK Sharma DIG ITBP and the officers of Police, CRPF, BSF, SSB, ITBP, CISF, Security, Intelligence Agencies, Railways and District Police.
DGP while reviewing security arrangements for the Block Development Council election, sought the feedback from the Range DIGs and the District SPs who attended the meeting through Video Conferencing. He was informed that adequate security arrangements have been made. The DGP directed that security on the vital installations including airports, railway stations, Civil Secretariat should be beefed up.
DGP also reviewed the Darbar-Move arrangements and directed that adequate security should be provided at different places. He said that 24×7 nakas should be established and activated, adding that adequate facilities should be provided to the nafri on the nakas. He said that the mobility of the districts have been upgraded, and directed that city grids must be established in all major towns and city contingency plans must be chalked out.
He said that CCTV cameras must be put into use and supervision of the deployment and a check on the anti-social elements must be ensured through CCTV surveillance. “Although we have got successes across the State against the terrorists yet we should continue our actions against the terrorists”, he said, adding that all the suspicious elements should be kept on the radar.
While referring to the infiltration the DGP said that all the stake holders must contribute to ensure that the border grid is further strengthened.
In reference to the management of traffic the DGP said that the city grid must remain active throughout for better security and traffic management, enforcement. He said that traffic violators should be booked under the law. He said that highway grid also needs more attention. The manpower needs to be augmented and the weaknesses need to be identified so that our responses are sharpened.
With regard to winter preparedness the DGP said that due care should be taken of the nafri and the supervisory officers should provide and arrange for requirement so that nafri does not face any hardship. The DGP directed the district officers particularly the district SPs to take serious action against the drug peddlers and dealers. He said that the lacunas in the investigations of NDPS cases should be removed and all the peddlers must be booked under Public Safety Act (PSA). He said that the public support is a must and more and more public cooperation should be ensured by doing more and more community based programmes.
The officers in the meeting and through the Video Conferencing briefed the DGP regarding the functioning in respective jurisdiction and areas of responsibilities.
