Checking corruption

An important reason why BJP got a massive mandate in previous Parliamentary election is its commitment to eradicate corruption in the administration and from public life. People are very eagerly awaiting the drastic steps the Government should be taking to do away with this cancerous disease. Corruption has tarnished our nation’s image and the nation did not spare those whom it found at fault. Naturally, Modi Government is bound to take one after the other step towards eradiation of corruption. The more recent step in this direction is that the Centre has asked all of its Government Departments to do away with “outdated” processes and to have Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to check corruption. Central Vigilance Commissioner has made this disclosure. CVC is galvanizing all organizations into identifying areas where there is a scope for corruption and delay. Infact, delays are occurring where the procedures and processes have become outdated in the current scenario and giving rise to some attitude of bribe seeking. One important decision announced by the Prime Minister in this context is that interview of candidates applying for lower posts has been scraped. The interview process was considered a source of corruption at many levels that denied employment opportunity to the deserving candidates.
We hail the decision of the Prime Minister and the vigilance machinery at the Centre of asking people to come forth with their genuine complaints against instances of corruption. Bringing awareness to people is the first onslaught on corruption in this country. That is precisely what the Central Government intends to do. Complaints should be genuine, based on facts, and sent to proper quarters by the complainants. This will have the desired impact. In eradicating corruption, people have also to play their part and cooperate with the Government. We know that corruption has spread its tentacles deep and wide and their eradication is a time consuming affair though not forbidding one. If we want a society minus corruption, we need to strengthen the hands of the Prime Minister.
