Chenani-Nashri Tunnel shut for traffic post technical snag, jam on Jmu-Sgr NH

JAMMU:  Country’s longest Chenani-Nashri Tunnel was today closed for traffic due to a technical snag in one of the tubes while a long traffic jam is reported on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district.
“Some technical snag broke out inside the tunnel this afternoon due to which it has been closed for vehicles,” Mohan Lal, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramban said here.
He said that due to closure of the tunnel for repairing the fault, there was long traffic jam on the highway as convoys were moving both ways.
Official sources said that due to short circuit inside the tunnel, technical error broke out and temporarily the tube was closed. “Traffic and Executive police personnel are on job and clearing the highway of traffic jams,” they said.
The 9.2-km long Chenani-Nashri Tunnel was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 2.
With the opening of the tunnel, the distance from Jammu to Srinagar cut short by 42-km and it saved around two hours of the journey. (ZCZC
