SRINAGAR : Amid chanting of Vedic hymns and sound of conch shell, the “Chhari Mubarak”, holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva was taken to historic Shankaracharya temple on the occasion of “Haryali-Amasvasya”, connected with annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the Chhari Mubarak after puja at Deshnami Akhara, at Budshah Chowk, took the Mace of Lord Shiva today for prayers on the occasion of Haryali-Amavasya (Shravan Amavasya) as per the age-old customs to Shankaracharya temple on the hill of Takhat Suliman, overlooking the Srinagar city.
The sound of conch shell reverberated and charged the whole atmosphere. Pujan was performed chanting Vedic hymn.
Sizable number of Sadhus and pilgrims participated in the prayers that lasted for more than two hours. Collective prayers were also offered for peace and prosperity of the Jammu & Kashmir State. ‘The True Trust’, founded by Mahant Giri in year 2004, shall make all the necessary arrangements like yesteryears for Sadhus and needy from the general public coming from across the country to join Chhari-Mubarak Yatra for their food, accommodation and transportation during the pilgrimage.
The holy Mace returned to Deshnami Akhara, Chhari-Mubarak shall be taken tomorrow to ?Sharika-Bhawani Temple, Hari Parvat, where the shrine of Hazrat Mehboobul Alam and Chatipadshahi Gurdwara exists. (UNI)
