Chhattisgarh, J’khand, Kerala Govts announce assistance for J&K

JAMMU, Sept 11: Chhatti-sgarh, Jharkhand and Kerala Governments today announced financial assistance for the flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
Chhattisgarh Government has announced an assistance of Rs 10 crore for the flood-affected people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The aid will be released both in terms of cash and commodities after having discussions with the J&K Government, an official said here today.
The decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of senior officials chaired by Chief Minister Raman Singh at his official residence at Raipur last evening.
Singh spoke to his J&K counterpart Omar Abdullah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about the situation in the Northern State, battling with the natural calamity, and assured to extend every possible relief to the affected people there, the official said.
Singh has also decided to donate his one day’s salary to help the victims of the flood-ravaged State and appealed his officers and employees to also donate their one-day payment to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, he said.
Besides, people who want to extend monetary help to the flood hit victims can deposit their contribution in the form of cheque to the CM’s Relief Fund in Chhattisgarh, he added.
Jharkhand Government today announced a sum of Rs 5 crore as relief for the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.
A decision in this regard was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
‘Apart from the financial assistance a special team will be sent to J&K to rescue the people of the State who have been trapped in the floods’, Cabinet Secretary J B Tubid here said after the meeting.
Among others the State Government also announced to provide bicycles to all the students studying in the Government schools of the State.
The Congress-led UDF Government in Kerala today decided to contribute Rs 2 crore for the relief in flood hit Jammu and Kashmir and set up a Special Relief Fund for mobilising contributions from the public to help the State.
The decision was taken by a meeting of the State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, an official release said.
Meanwhile, all officers and staff of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will contribute one day’s salary to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.
This is a gesture of solidarity with the flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir, a spokesman for the PMO said.
