Chib asks officers to be more responsive to people’s problems

JAMMU, July 9: Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib today reviewed the pace of progress on various ongoing developmental works, besides functioning of various service sector departments at a high level meeting.
Mr Chib, who is here to attend Jammu Summer Secretariat, had a detailed review of essential services including power, water, irrigation, health and other civic amenities besides various issues concerning the people of the region.
While reviewing the power and water scenario in Jammu region, Mr Chib laid emphasis on maintenance of Transmission and distribution system, besides repair of damaged conductors, transformers. PHE Department was directed to ensure regular water supply to the people during the ongoing summer season.
The Minister directed PDD authorities to keep close check on power breakdowns to avoid inconvenience to the consumers. He called for minimum curtailment of power so that people may not suffer in hot summer.
Referring to shortage of staff in PHE, PDD and Irrigation, the Minister directed the concerned authorities to initiate steps to rationalize staff in these vital sectors which will help further improve the water and power supply scenario.
It was informed in the meeting that the revised guidelines i.e 60:40 ratio is to be maintained at panchayat level and new works of convergence, land development and flood protection stand included in the works admissible under MGNREGA.
He also directed Irrigation and Flood Control Department to ensure adequate water supply to the farmers for the irrigation of their land.
Mr Chib asked the executing agencies to complete all the development works within stipulated time frame by using quality material, adding the Government has resolved to create durable assets.
Later, the Minister reviewed the progress on NBCC/ERA sewerage works and directed for timely restoration of dug out roads.
