NEW DELHI, Mar 25: Daljit Singh Chib, Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans called on Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Radha Mohan Singh here, today. He was accompanied by the Secretary of the Board, its members and progressive farmers.
During the meeting Chib highlighted various issues and problems being faced by the farmers of the State. The progressive farmers of all three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Laddakh, accompanying Vice Chairman discussed the issues faced by them in agriculture.
The Vice Chairman also submitted a memorandum for establishment of Permanent Procurement Mandies in the State of Jammu and Kashmir so that farmers can sale their produce at minimum support price in these mandies. Moreover these mandies should increase the market rates of farmers produce due to competition so that farmers are able to get better rates for crop. At present procurement mandies work on temporary basis which are prone to weather vagaries and often their opening gets delayed compelling farmers to sell their produce at lower prices in the market.
The Vice Chairman requested Union Minister for release of funding under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayi Yojana. He also discussed the potential of Organic farming in Jammu and Kashmir and requested for special funding to promote organic farming in the State. He invited Union Minister in various Kissan Melas to be organised by Board in future. The Board members and farmers from Leh in Ladkah region also highlighted the agriculture profile of Laddakh region and potential of apple and apricot in this region.
Radha Mohan Singh assured that Ministry of Agriculture will extend every possible help to the State of Jammu and Kashmir for welfare of farmers and growth in agriculture sector. He appreciated the efforts of J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans to highlight the issues of farmers for their welfare. The Union Minister also assured to visit all three regions i.e Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh soon .
The Vice Chairman and Board members presented a memoir of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine to Union Minister, which is one of the most famous Hindu religious Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. Secretary of Board A.H Wani, Board members and progressive farmers M.M. War, Rajesh Kumar, Phynchok Tandup, Mohammad Ali Majar, Urgyan Cheodan, MJ Paray, Surinder Singh, Vijay Dogra, Sunil Dutt, Rakesh Anthal, Narinder Singh accompanied the Vice Chairman.
