RS Pura, Sept 5: Balidan Divas of ‘Shaheed’ Ramesh Lal of 8th Dogra Regiment was observed today at his native village Kaloen in Suchetgarh.
Sepoy Ramesh Lal of 8th DOGRA, attained martyrdom on September 5, 1998, in Poonch Sector, while fighting with the militants. He belonged to a family of brave Jats who migrated from Bhimber (Now in PoK) and since then settled in border area of RS Pura Sector.
Sqn Ldr, RS Chib (Retd), former minister and senior Congress leader and chairman of the Memorial Committee, while paying his rich tributes to Shaheed Ramesh Lal, said that the Nation is proud of our security forces for defending our borders, very effectively and crushing the ugly head of Pak sponsored militancy in UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Chib made a special reference to the Border Security Force (BSF), deployed along the IB and said that the border residents (farmers) are fully satisfied and happy with the working of the BSF officers and jawans.
“Our farmers, whose lands are located other side of the fencing, are extremely grateful to BSF authorities for their co-operation at the time of sowing and harvesting season. The guidance and assistance provided to our farmers by the BSF jawans will always be remembered,” Chib added.
Cong leader said that a large number of our youth from the border area of RS Pura are serving in the Defence, Para-military and Police forces. “We are proud to say that quite a number of them have sacrificed their lives in different wars and counter insurgency operations post Independence,” Chib added.
He said that the development of this BORDER belt has been totally neglected. He added that it is unfortunate the Govt could not complete the four laning of 20 Kms of road from Jammu Cantt to Suchetgarh inspite of the fact that Suchetgarh has been declared an important destination under border Tourism plan.
TS Bajwa, former MP (RS) also spoke on this occasion and said that we are proud of Shaheed Ramesh Lal and asked the youth to take inspiration from his sacrifice and come forward and join the Defence Forces to serve the country. Several civil society members also spoke on the occasion and paid tributes to the Martyr.
