Chib terms issues of 1947, 65, 71 DPs genuine; seeks early redressal

JAMMU, Sept 12: Advocating reservation for refugees in CRPF, BSF, ITBT and other similar sectors, Minister for Medical Education, R S Chib on Wednesday said the Congress high command and the Centre were seized of the issues confronting refugees.
The Minister was speaking at specially convened public meetings at Badyal Brahmana and Jessore to have a personal feel of problems faced by the people and to inspect various development and civic works taken up at several places in R S Pura.
The people appreciated the efforts of the Congress delegation for taking up the issues of 1947, 1965 and 1971 refugees with the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and hoped the initiative will greatly help in redressing long pending issues of the displaced people.
Mr Chib said that channelizing the energies of youth belonging to displaced population towards right direction is imperative for their overall development and good for the society. He said Rs. 50 crore package for refugees during the tenure of Ghulam Nabi Azad as Chief Minister, reflects the concern and sincerity of Congress for the welfare and progress of the displaced people.
The Minister assured the people that he along with other colleagues will strongly plead the cause of refugees’ at all concerned forums for getting these resolved once for all. For this, he sought cooperation from the people and appealed them to fight for such vital issues with a collective approach irrespective of their political affiliations. He stressed upon the need for attitudinal change among common masses for progress and prosperity in the society.
On the occasion, the Minister announced Rs 3 lakh for construction of lanes and drains at Kotli Arjun Singh, Rs. 3 lakh, Rs. 1.50 lakh and Rs. 1.50 lakh for raising of sheds in the cremation grounds at Dherian, Badyal Bramana and Badila respectively out of Constituency Development Fund. He also announced installation of deep hand pump at Kotli Arjun Singh.
The Minister later visited several border areas and took stock of ongoing development works being executed under different schemes.
Responding to public demands regarding power scarcity, the Minister said efforts are being made to stabilize the gap between power supply and demand. He appealed the people to ensure judicious use of power besides paying their electricity bills in time without which the Government’s endeavor of supplying adequate supply would not be achieved. He said that upgradation of existing transformer to 10 MVA will improve power supply in Badyal Brahmana and adjoining areas including Abdullian for which technical sanction has been accorded. He said the cable wires up to 3 km will be replaced at the earliest.
Chib directed the Executive Engineer to start work on road from Central Badyal to Prem Nagar within a week’s time.
In response to people’s demand for playground at Badyal Brahmana, the Minister asked the SDM to identify suitable land for the purpose.
Later, the Minister convened a public meeting at Jessore and listened to the demands and problems of the people.
