Chief Board of Inspection missing at RTO Srinagar; transporters suffer

Srinagar, May 12: The transporters today said that they were facing a tough time due to the absence of the Chief Board of Inspection in the office of Regional Transport Office, Srinagar.
In this regard, a delegation of transporters said that for the last at least a month, almost 50% of the vehicles lying non-functional, causing them immense hardships
They said that no fitness is being cleared since the last officer assigned the duties was transferred. “In absence of any replacement, the transporters are made to suffer.”
They said that there was one officer who was transferred to Ganderbal and was replaced by another officer.
“However, within two days of latter’s appointment, he was taken moved out but without making any replacement. There is no officer to discharge the duties which are causing issues,” the transporters said.
They said that the Government will impose fines and penalties for delay without there being any fault on part of the particular transporter.
“It is a great injustice to us. Almost 50% of the vehicles are lying defunct for want of inspection which has not only affected the daily livelihood of the concerned transporter but as a consequence commuters are facing tremendous hardship as there is a lesser number of vehicles available on routes,” the transporters said.
They urged the government to issue instruction not to impose any fine for the days during which the Chief Board of Inspection remained absent.
