Chief Electoral Officer educates IIMC students on electioneering

JAMMU, Apr 2: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of J&K, Shailendra Kumar here today interacted with IIMC students.
Elaborating on the Parliamentary Elections-2019 ‘Desh Ka Maha Tyohar’, Kumar highlighted steps taken by Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure free and fair election.
“Besides awareness programme, ECI has taken various steps to empower every citizen to report Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation through C-vigil app,” Kumar further said.
He informed that there are over two crore mobile phone connections in the State with a population of 1.25 crore and it is expected that by one or other way, most of the eligible voters will get desired information.
“Presently, use of C-vigil will act as a watchdog. Citizens can upload photos or videos to report any violation of MCC enabling election authorities to initiate the desired action,” he added.
On this occasion State Nodal Officer, In-charge  SVEEP, Riaz Ahmed conveyed that this election is the world’s most expensive one.
“The VVPAT- (voter-verified paper audit trial), the costliest equipment having a foolproof system is being used to verify the vote by voter. This time ECI has put in place ‘National Voter’s Service Portal’ which can be used for by any eligible voter for any type of information related to election including voter’s registration/updation/ correction etc,” he said.
Additional CEO, Raman Kesar, Regional Director, IIMC, Manohar Khajuria, Assistant Prof. Anubhav Mathur and Academic Associate Mrs. Ravia Gupta were also present during the interaction.
