New block for Legal Aid Defence Counsel also inaugurated

UDHAMPUR, July 25: For promoting legal awareness among young minds, the Chief Justice of Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh, Justice Tashi Rabstan today inaugurated the Legal Literacy Club at Delhi Public School (DPS), Udhampur.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and esteemed guests. The inauguration ceremony was marked by a vibrant display of cultural performances by the students of DPS Udhampur. These performances highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the region and added touch of Rights of Citizens .
In his address, the Chief Justice emphasized the importance of legal literacy in empowering students to understand their rights and responsibilities. He commended the efforts of DPS Udhampur in initiating such a crucial program and encouraged students to actively participate in the club’s activities.
“The establishment of the Legal Literacy Club is a commendable initiative that will serve as a platform for students to gain knowledge about the legal system, which is fundamental to the functioning of a democratic society. I hope this club will inspire and guide students towards becoming responsible and informed citizens,” said the Chief Justice.
Dr Kunal Anand, Principal of DPS Udhampur, highlighted the school’s commitment to holistic education. “The Legal Literacy Club will not only educate our students about the law but also instill in them a sense of justice and fairness,” the Principal remarked.
Other dignitaries present at the program, included Mohinder Kumar Sharma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice; Haq Nawaz Zargar, Principal District and Sessions Judge Udhampur; Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J& K, LSA; Prem Sagar, Secretary High Court, Legal Services; Ajay Kumar, Secretary DLSA, Udhampur; Vishal Bharti, District Mobile Magistrate Udhampur; Saloni Rai, DC Udhampur; Joginder Singh, SSP Udhampur; Pro Vice Chairman of the School, Dr J C Gupta; MD of the School, Vivek Gupta and Director Academics of the School, Sucheta Gupta.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, followed by an interactive session where students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with the Chief Justice and other legal experts present.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan, also inaugurated a New Block dedicated to Legal Aid Defense Counsels (LADCs) at the District Court Complex, Udhampur.
After inaugurating the new block of LADCs, Justice Tashi Rabstan highlighted their important role in ensuring access to justice for marginalized and underprivileged sections of society particularly in the criminal cases. He emphasized that the new block would significantly enhance the capacity and effectiveness of legal aid services in Udhampur, providing a dedicated space for LADCs to work efficiently and assist those in need of legal representation.
Following the inauguration, Justice Tashi Rabstan interacted with the district administration to take stock of judicial infrastructure coming up in different Tehsils of district Udhampur.
A delegation of Bar Association Udhampur led by President J.D. Slathia also met Justice Tashi and presented a charter of demands which were patiently heard and some of them were resolved by issuing instructions to the concerned quarters.
Justice Tashi also had interaction with the Judicial Officers of the District Court Udhampur. He discussed various initiatives and measures to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the legal system in Udhampur, reaffirming his commitment to continuous improvement in the delivery of justice.
