Chief PMG inaugurates philatelic exhibition on Gandhiji

JAMMU, Oct 1: On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, a large scale philatelic exhibition on Gandhiji was inaugurated today by Chief Postmaster General (PMG) of the State at an impressive function held at Kala Kendra, amidst the presence of a large number of people and hundreds of school children.
The four-day long exhibition displays more than 50000 rare and varied stamps on Mahatma Gandhi issued by India and other countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Samuel said that Gandhiji is an inspiration to the entire world, with his life and teachings of non-violence. The aim of organising the exhibition is to promote the values of Gandhiji through the innovative medium of Philately, he added.
During the inauguration, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Professor MP Singh Ishar, released a special cover on Mahatma Gandhi and ‘ My Stamp’ with Gandhiji’s signature. Commending the role of Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, John Samuel, for organising the exhibition, Vice-Chancellor said that the exhibition would go a long way in inculcating the Gandhian values among the masses particularly the students.
Complimenting the Department of Posts for organising such exhibition around Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, president, Gandhi Foundation, Dr Gautam Mengi said that Chief Post Master General is not only working for the development of postal services in the State but also for strengthening the bonds of common people with Post Office. He also spoke on the Gandhian philosophy and stressed upon the students to adopt the values of Gandhiji in their life.
A letter writing competition and a debate competition for the school students were also held at Kala Kendra in which more than 700 students participated. A Special lecture on Gandhian philosophy and its relevance in the present scenario were also delivered by Dr Renu Nanda from University of Jammu.
