China doesn't oppose India's entry into NSG: Swaraj

NEW DELHI:  Asserting that India would become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) by December, 2016, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said China is not opposing its entry, but it has raised valid concerns on the criterion process.

While listing her ministry’s achievements in the last two years, Ms Swaraj said, ”China is not against India’s entry into NSG, but they have raised a criterion process. Hopefully, we’ll able to convince China as well, I’m myself in contact with 23 nations, 1 or 2 raised concern but I think consensus is there.”

On Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar’s unannounced visit to Beijing on June 16, the Minister said, ”Yes, he went to seek support for India’s entry.” The plenary meeting of the 48-nation atomic trading bloc is scheduled to be held on June 24 in Seoul.

On being asked about India-Pakistan talks, Ms Swaraj said, ”Foreign Secretary level talks between the two nations have not been cancelled, but we are only awaiting probe from Pakistan side on Pathankot attack.”

However, she maintained that, ”Terrorism and dialogue cannot go hand-in-hand”. (AGENCIES)
