China opposes US plan to send delegation to Taiwan after election – Embassy

WASHINGTON, Jan 11 : China opposes President Joe Biden’s alleged plan to send a high-level delegation of former US officials to Taipei following Taiwan’s elections over the weekend, the Chinese Embassy said in a statement to Sputnik.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Financial Times reported, citing sources, that Biden plans to send a high-level delegation of former US officials to Taipei after the election in Taiwan on Saturday.

“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. China firmly opposes the US having any form of official contact with the Taiwan region,” Chinese Embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said on Wednesday.

China urges the United States to take various steps to address this issue including abiding by the one-China principle, ending official contact with the Taiwan region, and avoiding sending wrong signals to “Taiwan independence” separatist forces and refrain from interfering in elections in the Taiwan region in any form, Liu said.
