KUPWARA, Apr 22: Dardpura also known as ‘Village of Widows’ is a remote area in Kupwara district and neglected in terms of development.
In this regard, a project plan was drawn up by Indian army in collaboration with JSS to empower women and youth of the area.
A total of nine JSS centres were being run in Kralpura, Panzgam, Warsun and Dardpura with 200 students (including 160 girls) who were qualified from these centres last year.
Lt. Gen. D.P Pandey, Chinar Corps Cdr distributed qualification certificates to the students.
Two new skill centres were also inaugurated by him in Dardpura, Panzgam and were dedicated to the widows so that the next generation in the family can get skilled to have suitable employment or entrepreneurship.
Widows of Dardpura were also felicitated with Iftar gifts, stitching machines and solar lights.
A handicapped friendly scooty was gifted to a disabled person in the village, who despite the loss of a limb has been able to impart electrical skill training to the students of electrician training course.
The Corps Cdr interacted with the villagers and applauded them for their positive outlook, high motivation and strong national spirit and assured them of all possible help from Army.
He also expressed that the rest of the Kashmir should take lessons of peace from Kupwara, which has been a victim of terrorism in the past.
