Chinese court upholds Beijing airport bomber’s sentence


BEIJING, Nov 29:  A Chinese court here today upheld the verdict in the case of a wheelchair-bound man who was sentenced to six years in prison for setting off home made explosives at the Beijing International Airport in July.

            The ruling was delivered by the Beijing Municipal No. 3 Intermediate People’s Court today, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

            The 33-year-old man named Ji Zhongxing was penalised for causing an explosion in a public place, according to the first-instance ruling by the Chaoyang District People’s Court in Beijing on October 15.

            A native of east China’s Shandong Province, Ji set off a homemade explosive device outside the airport’s Terminal 3 arrivals exit on July 20, severely injuring himself.

            A police officer at the scene suffered minor injuries in the explosion. (PTI)
