Chinese interference in Ladakh

Owing to unwarranted interference by the Chinese troops, work on the irrigation canal at Kuyul Gonbo Yardol, started in 2005-06 at an estimated cost of Rs 63.80 lakh under BADP Scheme, has been stopped causing concern to the local administration and the public. The source of the canal is River Indus and the work was started mainly for the development of pasture in Phukchey area and will cater to the villagers of Kuyul, which is around 240 kilometres away from Leh District Headquarters. District administration has brought the matter to the notice of the State Government and desired it to take up the matter urgently with the Ministry of External Affairs. It has also written to the DIG of BSF, the organization supposed to provide security to the border with China.
For quite some time Chinese interference in the developmental work on our border in Ladakh has been reported but the Union Government has always taken shelter behind the assertion that it was trying to maintain good neighbourly relations with that country. The menace is affecting the life and economy of the people in the border area where they want their pastures to be without intrusion. It is the responsibility of the Union Government to take necessary measure and dispel the apprehensions of the people in the border district of Ladakh. Affected people are getting fed up with the passive policy of the Government in this behalf and their resentment has a limit.
