SAMBA, Dec 5: Mystery shrouds the death of a middle aged chowkidar, whose charred body was found lying inside a room in a factory premises in Industrial area, Bari Brahamana this morning.
The police identified the deceased as Bishan Dass (48), son of Chatru Ram, resident of Ramban. He was presently residing at Bari Brahamana. This unit namely, Nishant Chemicals was lying closed for the last several months and Bishan was deputed as Chowkidar there. He used to stay at guards’ room near the main gate. During the day, this poor Chowkidar, used to run a small `Khokha’ (shop), near the main gate of the factory just to enhance his income.
Today morning, some people saw smoke coming out from guards’ room and informed police. The factor owners also reached there after receiving information. SHO Bari Brahamana examined the spot and found charred body of Bishan Dass lying on the floor in the room. The goods lying in the room, his bed and belongings had also burnt in the fire. The police suspected some foul play as the room was opened. The body of the deceased was sent for postmortem to GMC Hospital, Jammu and later handed over to the family for disposal.
A senior police officer said that Bishan Dass had strained relations with his wife Salima Devi and for the last two years, she was residing separately at Tred Basti in Bari Brahamana. She was also working in another factory in the same area. He said deceased’s wife and two other persons have been picked up in this connection and inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC have been initiated. He said that possibility of murder can not be ruled out.
