JAMMU, Apr 16: Dr Ajay Chrungoo, Chairman Panun Kashmir (PK) held an interaction with the Kashmiri Pandits at Kashyap Bhawan, Andheri East Mumbai today.
KPA Mumbai facilitated and arranged the interaction which was aimed at discussing the current socio-political issues concerning the community.
Krishen Kemmu, president, KPA Mumbai made the welcome address.
Kemo urged Dr Chrungoo to share his analysis of the current affairs. Dr Chrungoo recalled that the Kashmiri Pandit community living in Mumbai were the most receptive to the idea of Panun Kashmir and appreciated their contributions. He highlighted the recent events of fresh forced exodus of KPs. He said that KP employees who were forced to break their agitation for relocation after stopping their salaries for about eight months are being kept as strategic hostages in Kashmir. He said that the current dispensation at Centre is perhaps not yet fully sensitive about the intensity of the genocidal attrition against the community in Kashmir where all the segments have been targeted including package employees, businessmen, daily hawkers, private employees and even those who did not flee Kashmir in 1989-90.
He said that the biggest threat in the genocidal environment is incomprehension. “Development model as the only means to stabilize a terror torn zone has failed as an experiment not just in India but in Kashmir as well.
Officially recognising the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits is the first step towards a real resolution”, he said. “Our community is caught up between the forced genocide and forces of denial of genocide. After the neutralisation of Article 370, PK proposed a draft bill on punishment and prevent of genocide crimes to give the Indian State a framework to work on it.“ We urged the Government to take it seriously and enact the proposed Genocide Bill as the first policy measure”, he added.
He said while it is important to give to the Government credit on significant decisions, it is also our foremost responsibility to speak the truth and be critical of the establishment where they show lack of sensitivity. He highlighted the issue of demographic changes being made in Jammu which will be a security threat for the people of the region. He emphasized that creation of PK is the only way to reverse the demographic assault of Jihad in Kashmir and for the rehabilitation of KPs”. He urged the community members to come forward and participate in the struggle for survival.
