JAMMU, Nov 2: Chairman PoK Refugee Cell of National Conference, Rajiv Chuni today sought constitution of an apex committee on the analogy of similar panel for Kashmiri Pandits to look into the problems of those displaced in 1947, 1965 and 1971.
In a statement, Mr Chuni said such an apex committee will have close coordination with the State Government to have the problems of PoK refugees sorted out on immediate basis for appropriate redressal. This, he added, will satiate the urges and aspirations of the refugees.
Mr Chuni also urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for considering formation of Development Board for PoK Refugees on the pattern of Board for the Development of Gujjars and Bakerwals besides recommending a package to the Centre for implementation of various welfare programmes for the community.
Castigating the successive Central Governments for ignoring the refugees and only indulging in lip services, Mr Chuni said that It was only Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and the National Conference Government that came forward to help out the unfortunate population from time to time..
He urged the political class to rise above party politics and join the Chief Minister in getting problems of refugees solved by the Centre.
