JAMMU, Oct 29: Terming the shifting of Jammu High Court building to Raika-Bahu forest area an ill-conceived project, Citizen’s Forum has urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to cancel this project forthwith.
Addressing a meeting of the Forum, its president, RK Chadha, said the Forum has failed to understand that what interest the highly upright and honest outgoing Governor and Chief Secretary have in sanctioning this filthy and ill-conceived project, for which more than 30, 000 trees are to be cut and sold in the market.
He said this project will directly affect health of citizens of Jammu “The life span of J&K people is estimated average at 80 years, which is highest in the country. If this project is completed, the Raika-Bahu forest and wild life sanctuary forest which are the lungs and lifeline of Jammu city, will turn into a gas chamber equal to New Delhi in its pollution level,” Chadha added.
Chadha said at present the pollution in Jammu city is between 100-200 AQI (a normal range) but with the cutting of a huge number of 30,000 trees officially and many thousands unofficially by the contractors, pollution will be out of control for us as is now in New Delhi as Jammu city has second largest number of vehicles as per population ration in the world.
He urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to cancel this project and save the life of citizens of Jammu.
KB Jandyal, Prem Nath, PP Sharma, Col (retd) Shiv Choudhary, JK Vaid and many other retired top officers also consented to join Citizens’ Forum and fight against mishandling with the future of Jammu region by the Government.
