JAMMU, Mar 10:  While accusing the Modi Government at the Centre of giving undue benefits  to big business houses  in the country  and crushing the labour class, the activists of the state unit of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) held protest demonstration here today.
Led by the State president of CITU, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami (MLA), the CITU activists took out a protest march from Gandhi Nagar to the office of Divisional Commissioner at Rail Head Complex and handed over a 12- point memorandum of demands.
Earlier, addressing large gathering of CITU workers, Mr Tarigami said that by amending the Labour laws, the Central Government is giving undue benefits to the Corporate houses and the mill owners, crushing the members of labour class.
He pointed out that the need of the hour is to strengthen the existing Labour laws but the Government is weakening them by bringing amendments to it.
“We will continue to protest any move which is against the welfare of the labour class,” he added.
The CITU also demanded that the honorarium of the need-based workers which has not been paid for the last several months, should be released and a minimum wage of Rs 15,000 be fixed for them. The Union also demanded extension of social security benefits to the construction workers in the State.
Senior CITU leaders Om Parkash and Sham Parsad Kesar also addressed the gathering and appealed to the workers to remain united for their cause.
