Civic Safai Karamchari Union calls off scheduled strike

JAMMU, July 31: Civic Safai Karamchari Union and Driver Union, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), today called off their scheduled strike with effect from today after the assurance of Commissioner, JMC, Soujanya Sharma, that their demands will be fulfilled.
The Commissioner held a detailed meeting with delegations of the Union led by Suresh Sharma, State president, JKPDTU, Rinku Gill, president, SCKU and Ranjit Singh, president, Driver and Cleaner Union, JMC. In the meeting, which last for more than hour, the Commissioner agreed to fulfill the demands within a time frame work following which the scheduled strike was called off by the Union.
The union said if their demands are not met within the agreed period, the employees will go on strike without giving any further notice.
The demands of the employees are ending NGO system in JMC and converting all the NGO Safai Karamcharis into casual labour, holding DPC of all cadre, re-organization of JMC, issuing Service Book to the 18 permanent SKCs, regularization of all SKCs, solving all the pending time bound promotion cases, enhancing salary of casual labour, holding medical camps for all SKCs after every 3 months, providing uniform, masks, gloves, shoes and rain coat to all the SKCs from time to time, regularization of contractual drivers who have completed seven years of service, etc.
