Civic Safai Karamcharis, other workers of JMC suspend strike

JAMMU, July 20: After the agreement reached between Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) authorities and Civic Safai Karmcharis and other workers, the latter suspended their strike.
A meeting of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) authorities and representatives of Civic Safai Karamcharis Union, Drivers and Cleaners Union and Clerical Union was held in the office chamber of Commissioner JMC at Town Hall here in which demands put forth by the unions were discussed and an agreement was executed.
As per agreement, DPC meeting will be convened on July 24 to consider promotion cases of all municipal cadres, matter of re-organization and increase to the wages of 200 casual labour SKC’s as already recommended to the Administrative Department will be pursued jointly by the Municipal authorities and representatives of Municipal Empl-oyees Unions, regularization case of contractual drivers, computer operators, surveyors, technical assistants will be considered, when reorganization proposal will be approved and vacancies will be made available as per norms and regarding scrapping of NGO’s system and adoption of the prevailing system in Srinagar Municipal Corporation, a  committee of Municipal Officers will formulate a list of NGO workers and forward to the Government by or before August 31 for consideration and redressal of the demand/resolution put forth by the Municipal Employees Unions.
The Unions representatives warned the Administration that if they failed to consider their demands then they will have no other option than to resume their suspended strike.
Among others present were Rinku Gill, president, Civic Safai Karamchari Union, Mohammad Younis Bhat, president, Driver and Cleaners Union, Rohit George, president, Clerical Union, Jarnail Khokhar, Sanju Burat, Anil Bali, Gulzar Masih, etc.
