JAMMU, July 25: A peaceful sit-in protest demonstration was organized by various organizations besides prominent citizens and intellectuals of different segments of the society of Jammu against ongoing violence in Kashmir, here near Press Club.
A large number of prominent people of Jammu and representatives of various social organizations this morning, assembled near Press Club and staged a protest demonstration by raising slogans against the present State Government for its failure to stop the violence in Kashmir and control the situation.
Carrying placards in their hands, they demanded the Central as well as State Governments to ensure that no lethal weapons and excessive force is used by Army and paramilitary forces against unarmed people of Kashmir.
They alleged that in the ongoing violence in Kashmir, 50 people have lost their lives till date and most of them were youth while 90% youths stuck by pellet guns have lost their vision and more than 3000 are severely injured.
They further said that that some draconian laws such as AFSPA and PSA enforced in the State may be withdrawn. “Government of India and J&K Government must take concrete confidence building measures for the restoration of peace in Kashmir”, they added.
Prominent among others who were part of the protest include Himmat Singh, Kulwant Singh, Roop Chand, Lekhraj Khajuria, Ashok Bhagat, Mohd Sharief Sartaj, MR Quershi, KS Chauhan, NS Khalsa and PC Badan.
