Arms, ammunition recovered in Karnah

SRINAGAR, Jan 1: Security forces today recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition besides narcotics in Kupwara district of North Kashmir and arrested a person in this connection while a civilian was injured in a grenade attack in Srinagar.
“In a major success on anti-militant activities, Kupwara Police arrested a person from Karnah area of the district and recovered a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and narcotics”, police said.
“Based on a specific information received by District Police Kupwara, that a huge consignment of arms, ammunition and narcotics has been smuggled in by two persons in Chatkadi area of Police Station Karnah, a joint search operation was carried by police team led by SHO Karnah along with a team of Army 6 JAK RIF”, the police statement read.
“During the search operation, one Umar Aziz son of Aziz-u- Rehman Kumar, a resident Chatkadi was apprehended. On his sustained questioning, he confessed about the receiving of a consignment of arms, ammunition and narcotics by him and his other associate. On his disclosure, a detailed search was carried out and a huge consignment of narcotics and arms and ammunition were recovered from Garangnard Chatkadi,” police said.
The recovery, the statement read, includes five pistols, 10 pistol magazines, 77 pistol rounds, one pistol cleaning rod, one pistol user manual guide, four hand grenades and 10 packets of heroin like narcotics substance weighing 9.450 Kgs.
A case (FIR No. 01/2023) has been registered in Police Station Karnah and investigation taken up.
“As per inputs, the consignment was meant for the TRF offshoot of proscribed militant organisation Lashkar e Toiba (LeT),” read the statement.
In the meantime, a civilian was injured after militants hurled a grenade on CRPF bunker near Hawal Chowk in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar this evening.
A police officer said that militants lobbed grenade towards CRPF bunker of 28 Bn near Hawal Chowk. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on roadside.
One civilian identified as Sameer Ahmed Malla son of Manzoor Ahmed Malla resident of Habak recieved minor splinter injury. He was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.
The area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, one Irfan Bashir Gania today snatched a rifle from Central Reserve Police (CRPF) personnel near Below Rajpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
However, Additional Director General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that police have brought back 24-year old Gania son of Bashir Ahmad Gania of Below Rajpora Pulwama with the assistance of family along with the snatched rifle. He said that investigations into the incident are going on.
The rifle was snatched from CRPF personnel of 183 Bn posted on Naka duty near Below area. Soon after the incident the whole area has been cordoned off to nab the fleeing militants.
