JAMMU, Dec 6: Chief Justice of High Court, Justice M M Kumar today transferred the challan in the much publicized jute matting purchase scam from the Court of Special Judge Anticorruption Srinagar to the Court of Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu.
Chief Justice transferred the challan while considering the petition filed by Ajit Kumar, the then Additional Chief Secretary.
The jute matting purchase scam took place in the Education Department headed by the then Additional Chief Secretary, Ajit Kumar in the year 1997. The transfer of case from Srinagar to Jammu was sought on the ground that on a petition filed by Abdul Rehman Bhat (Prop of Commercial Corp) the case was transferred to Srinagar wing from Jammu.
It was also submitted by Ajit Kumar that he has been facing threat from various organizations and therefore it would not be possible for him to defend himself at Srinagar.
After hearing Advocate DS Chouhan for the petitioner whereas senior Additional Advocate General Gagan Basotra for the State, Chief Justice observed that the FIR was registered at Jammu and challan was also filed at Jammu as such there was no ground in turning down the petition seeking transfer of case from Srinagar to Jammu. The Chief Justice directed the parties to appear before the Court on December 12, 2013.
