CJI gets emotional at JU Convocation, dedicates Degree to parents

JAMMU :  Chief Justice of India Justice T S Thakur today got emotional after he was conferred with Degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) by the University of Jammu at 16th Convocation here.
Vice President of India M Hamid Ansari was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of the Jammu University was also present.
Governor N N Vohra conferred Degree of Doctor of Laws on Justice T S Thakur.
“On this occasion I pay tributes to my teacher and dedicate this Degree to my parents–Jai Hind,” Justice Thakur in his emotional speech said.  He said that this is for the second time I am being honoured with Doctorate Degree.
“First time it was in Lucknow but I am deeply grateful for this honour,” the CJI said and thanked the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor. He said that over 46 years or so, this University has produced outstanding academicians, jurists, scholars.
“Jammu and Kashmir is a very small state as compared to other states. Not in term of land or area but population wise,” Justice Thakur said adding, “I think we are one tenth of UP or other states but if we come to human resources, the size has not affected.”
“If you deserves, you get a reasonable chance of getting it,” Justice Thakur with emotional voice said and broke down.
“To the students here I only say that I am a product of a government school, government college and I still remember the school did not had fee but we used to pay 50 naya (new) paisa as charge,” he said in his address.       The CJI said, “…teachers were good. They could created, shape and prepare people for struggle of life.”
