CJM Reasi convicts accused in NDPSA case

JAMMU, Jan 9: Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Reasi, Archana Charak has convicted accused namely Harbans Lal, son of Jagan Nath of Kayala under NDPSA and awarded six months rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 10,000. He was arrested by Reasi Police with 92 grams of charas.
“There is sufficient material on record which connect the accused with the commission of offence under NDPS Act. As such accused is liable to be convicted on the basis of evidences”, the court said, adding “the case at has propensity of damaging future of many youth particularly students who are vulnerable”.
“In order to keep the faith of public in judiciary intact, accused needs to be dealt adequately and strongly”, the court said, adding “such organized activities of clandestine smuggling of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances have deadly impact on society as a whole”.
“Therefore, interest of society as a whole is required to be taken into consideration while awarding sentence or punishment in case of NDPS Act. Accordingly accused Harbans Lal is convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for period of six months and fine of Rs 10,000 to send a clear message to deter other like-minded criminals to commit such crimes in future”, the court said.
