Clashes at recruitment rally

Srinagar, Aug 5: Clashes erupt between security forces and youth at a police recruitment site after suspected militants fired some gunshots in Kareemabad village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Sources told Excelsior that police had organized a recruitment drive for the post of Special Police Officer (SPO). They said that as the drive was underway, suspected militants fired few gunshots from a nearby orchard.
The gunshots created panic among the youth who were present there for recruitment and in the meanwhile, some locals pelted stones on police ensuing clashes.
In the clashes, a Deputy Superintendent of Police Shafiq was hit by a stone and sustained injuries.
Kareemabad is the ancestral village of policeman-turned-militant, Naseer Pandith, who was also security guard of R&B Minister, and recently appeared in several photographs and a video of militants which went viral on social networking sites.
