Clashes erupt over cement supply row in Khrew

Srinagar, Mar 18: Stone-throwing truckers clashed with police in Khrew area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district over existing cement supply row.
Police had mediated between Al Khuddam Truck Union and Zaffran Truck Union who are at logger heads with each other over the supply of cement from factories in Khrew area of Pulwama. Both the unions with the mediation of police had reached a solution.
“However when truckers associated with Al Khuddam Union today along with police went to load the cement they without any visible reason pelted stones on cops,” witnesses said the, adding that even women also pelted stones at police.
Police retaliated by resorting to teargas shelling and baton charge ensuing clashes between the two sides which continued for a brief period of time, said the witnesses. However, they said, no one was injured in the clashes.
