Clashes, protests continue across Kashmir; 3 more die, toll mounts to 33

SRINAGAR, July 12: A youth was killed and 14 others were injured as security forces fired at protesters in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this afternoon while two injured protesters succumbed today, taking death toll in the violence in the aftermath of killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani to 33.
A youth identified as Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh of Batapora, Sopore was killed when security forces opened fire in Kralpora Kupwara during clashes this afternoon. The firing also left 14 persons injured, out of them four are critical.
A police spokesman while giving details said that at Kralpora, Kupwara a mob attacked the police station and set on fire a police vehicle in which police men got trapped. “While dealing with the incident, one person was injured, who later succumbed to his injuries,” he said.
Two injured-Shahid Ganai of Checkchalan, Shopian and Aamir Nazir of Bijbehara town today succumbed to injuries. Shahid was injured on Saturday while Aamir was wounded yesterday near Zipara in Bijbehara. With these deaths, the toll mounted to 33.  The reports said that over 400 people including over 100 police men were injured in the clashes during last four days.
Meanwhile, the clashes continued across Kashmir even as curfew and shutdown continued and normal life remained disrupted. The authorities imposed strict curfew in Old City areas of city, Maisuma, Batamaloo and other sensitive parts.
The life remained disrupted for the fourth day today with shops, business establishments, Government offices, banks closed and traffic was off the roads. The roads were blocked at several places by the protesters.
Protesters clashed with police and security forces at Ganderbal, Pulwama, Shopian, Kupwara, Handwara, Kulgam, Anantnag, Tral and Baramulla.
At Tral, a police post guarding minorities was torched by protesters while another police post was set ablaze at Rohmoo. The protesters also looted a rifle from the police post in Tral.
The authorities suspended mobile connectivity in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district after killing of a protester. There is complete breakdown of mobile and internet communication in South Kashmir and only BSNL broadband and mobile is working.
In Awantipora, South Kashmir mob attacked the house of Sub Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Pal at Chandrigam and beat up his wife and daughter. Both were injured in the attack. The injured duo were shifted to Sub District Hospital Awantipora where their condition is stated to be stable.
Pal, who is posted as duty officer at Sangam police post in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district, was not at home at the time of the attack. The mob ransacked Pal’s house, causing extensive damage to the building.
A police spokesman said that the situation in Valley remained under control today though some incidents of arson and mob attacks were reported.
The spokesman said: “The stray and intermittent incidents of stone pelting were reported from Tral, Nowdal, Gadbugh, Batnag, Chindrigam, Shopian, Memander, Frisal, Yaripora, Ruhama, Rajpora, Newa, Bijbehara, Goriwan, Exchange Road Beerwa, Main Chowk Sopore, Warpora, Khanpora bridge, Baramulla, Langate, Trehgam, Popchan and Bandipora”.
“Miscreants set ablaze a police guard room at Gadbugh, a minority picket guard room at Batnag, Tral, and a guard room of P/P Ruhama in Pulwama. Miscreants lobbed a petrol bomb on CRPF and police party deployed at Gachi Mohalla Near Cement bridge Safa Kadal, Srinagar”, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said: “During stone pelting on police and CRPF deployment a stone pelter namely Arhan Mir resident of Bijbehara picked up a tear smoke shell, which exploded in his hand due to which he was injured”.
In the meantime, militants  attacked a police party at Warpora area of Sopore town in Baramulla District . Militants fired upon a police party at Warpora in Sopore. The whole area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to trace out the militants.
Director SKIMS, Dr A G Ahanger today appealed people to cooperate with SKIMS staff and make sure that the movement of ambulances and other vehicles is not affected at anywhere.
Dr Ahanger requested the public and concerned organizations to cooperate with SKIMS staff and as always make sure that the movement of ambulances and other vehicles is not affected at anywhere.  He said there has been an unprecedented increase in the patient load especially of trauma patients due to prevailing adverse conditions managing which leads unrestricted movement of ambulances and other vehicles carrying staff.
