JAMMU, Oct 2: Cleanliness drives under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ marked the celebrations of 145th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi ji in educational institutions.
Central University of Jammu (CUJ) today pledged to keep its campus and neighbourhood clean, as a part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ initiative of the Government of India. The Incharge Vice Chancellor of CUJ, Prof Devanand asked the Deans, Registrar and other CUJ officers, faculty, staff, and students present to take a pledge to keep the University campus, its neighbourhood and the neighbourhood of their residence clean. VC and officers of the University then initiated the cleaning campaign of the campus area with brooms and by removing the weeds. Prof NR Sharma, Dean Students Welfare coordinated the programme.
To remember father of the Nation on his Jayanti, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was observed today at the District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIET) Jammu under the guidance and supervision of Mohinder Singh, Principal, DIET Jammu. The Principal along with staff members took part in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the office premises. The staff members took oath to keep the office premises and their surroundings clean.
On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the staff and students of the GDC Akhnoor launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in presence of Principal Dr Asha Gupta. On the occasion the staff and student of the college run cleanliness drive in campus. The programme was organized by NSS Unit of the college under the supervision of Prof Surinder Singh Parihar, NSS Programme Officer.
Two days workshop on cleanliness drives was organized by NSS wing of the Government MAM College under the slogan of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in which volunteers were instilled about sanitation and healthy life style. On the occasion, Massive Campus Cleanliness drive was launched in which the NSS Volunteers along with the Programme Officer made their commitment to keep the campus neat and clean. The entire programme was organized under the guidance of Dr Anita Soodan, Principal of the College.
The students, teachers along with Principal of Government Degree College, Samba Dr Romesh Chander paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi ji by organizing cleanliness drive in the college campus. The NSS Programmer Officer Dr Sandhya Rani organized painting and poster making competition on the theme of Gandhi and his philosophy, in which 10 students participated. The prizes were distributed to the participants.
The NSS Unit of Government Degree College, Reasi launched three-day cleanliness drive in the college campus in connection with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. A plantation drive was also carried out by the NSS Volunteers on the occasion. In her inaugural address, principal of the college, Prof Kaushal Samotra, emphasized on the importance of such programme. Dr Arsh Deep Singh presided over the function and guided the students to act as patrons for the tress.
On Gandhi Jayanti, NSS Unit of GDC Kathua under the banner of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by PM Narendra Modi, today organised a Swachhta Shapath Ceremony. The ceremony started with paying reverences to Mahatama Gandhi and second PM of India, Lal Bahadhur Shastri. The ceremony was attended by Volunteers of NSS, NCC Cadets, teaching faculty and non-teaching staff, wherein Swachhta Shapath was administered by the principal of college, Dr BL Gupta to all those present.
To celebrate the occasion, Government Post Graduate College, Rajouri, organized a symposium on Communal Harmony. District Development Commissioner, Rajouri, Jatindra Kumar Singh, was the chief guest while principal of the college, Dr Javaid Ahmed Qazi, presided over the function. Twelve students participated in the symposium out of which Aflaq Ahmed Maliq bagged 1st position, Ahsan Ul Haq Dansih claimed 2nd while Waseem Raja and Amir Amin shared 3rd position.
Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur, Bantalab organized a debate on the theme “Impact of Gandhian Philosophy on Present Day Generation”. Prof Sunil Tiku, Member Finance (HESK) was the chief guest and among others Virender Raina, member EB (HESK) and Prof GL Koul, Principal, GMCEJ were also present.
The students and NSS Volunteers of Government Degree College (GDC), Bani launched a massive cleanliness drive in the Sub-District Hospital, Bani, in which Principal of the college, Dr Naresh Kumar Gupta, NSS Programme Officers, staff and NSS volunteers took part. A camp was organized by the NSS Volunteers so as to spread the message of cleanliness among the masses.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated in GDC Paloura and tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi by launching “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Patriotic songs were also sung by the students. NSS volunteers and NCC Cadets of GDC Paloura under the leadership of Prof MS Saini organized a rally which was flagged off by the Principal Dr Savitri Sharma. Prof Karan Singh Bhau, NCC Officer, Prof Jugal Kishore Sharma, Dean Students Welfare and Dr Seema Sudan, Staff Secretary, Principal Dr Savitri Sharma highlighted the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
The NSS unit of Ramisht College of Education, Basohli organized a sanitation drive in the vicinity of Basohli town. The volunteers collected polythene wrappers and other rudiments lying on the road. A symposium was also organized, in which volunteers expressed their views about Gandhism and gave message of Love, Non-Violence and brotherhood to the people. Chairman of the college, Rajinder Parshad Sharma inspired them to organize such activities in the time to come.
To pay tribute to Father of the Nation on his Jayanti, a function was organized today at Himalayan College, Rajouri. A large number of students of the college and teachers participated in the event. The program was jointly chaired by Pankaj Chandan, Project Director, WWF Pir Panchal Range, Prof Mohd Sharif Chouhan, Principal HCE and Dr Abdul Mabood, vice-principal of college. Later, Swachh Rajouri Mission was also launched and all the students, teachers and guests pledged to remain committed towards making Rajouri clean.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, girl cadets of 2nd J&K Girls BN NCC Jammu, participated in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Approximately 100 NCC Cadets from GCW Parade and GCW Gandhi Nagar carried out a rally to drive home the message of “Clean India, Healthy India”. The cadets cleaned the roads and area around Kachi Chawni and Parade Ground. Principal of GCW Parade, Dr Hemla aggrawal and CO of NCC Girls, Col Rajesh Kumar addressed the students and exhorted them to keep their premises clean.
NCC Cadets of 2nd J&K Boys Battalion, NCC also participated in the Swachh Bhartiya Abhiyan led by Associate NCC Officer, captain, Prof Karan Singh Bahu, at Old University Campus. Principal, GDC Paloura, Dr Savitri Sharma also participated in the drive.
The NSS wing of Government Polytechnic for Women, Jammu today organised a series of activities viz poster making competition, debate competition and cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Students presented various bhajans and patriotic songs. Students were allotted different areas within institutions boundary wherein they participated devotedly and zealously to clean the premises. Students pledged to make Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a mass movement to realise Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of clean India by 2019.
Sacred Heart College of Education organized a special assembly to pay rich tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri. Chairperson of the college, highlighted the contributions of great leaders and suggested the students to follow the path of peace, truth and non-violence. MD of the college, Hari Singh Chib and principal of the College, Dr KK Tiwari also remembered these great leaders in their speeches.
To celebrate birthdays of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and 2nd PM of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri, the management of Shivalik College of Education, Udhampur and Happy Model Higher Secondary School, organized a peace rally which begins from school premises and culminated again at school by passing through the main bazaars of Udhampur Town. The rally was flagged off by DDD Udhampur, Yasha Mudgalk. The students, teachers and members of the civil society participated in the rally.
NITS Polytechnic, Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib organized a special assembly to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Students, faculty members, HoDs of various departments along wit management also participated in the cleanliness driver. Director of the institute Savinder Gupta threw light on the importance of the day.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Jammu Region today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with an oath on ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ at its office in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The programme took off with the garlanding the picture of Gandhi Ji by AVLJ Rao, Deputy Commissioner, KVS, Regional Office, Jammu. An article-reading session was also organized in which different members of the staff laid emphasis on importance of cleanliness.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated today at Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu by garlanding the picture of Gandhi Ji by T S Choudhary, principal of the Vidyalaya. Office staff and staff members also paid tributes to Gandhi ji by offering flower garlands and flower buds. Coaches, escorts and the participants of coaching camps going on in the Vidyalaya for KVS Nationals competitions of Chess and Skating also attended this ceremony.

On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Government Higher Secondary School, Kathera, district Kathua organized sanitation programme. Principal Dev Raj along with staff and students participated in the programme.
Army Public School Ratnuchak launched the “Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan” on the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi. The programme commenced with hoisting of the national flag by Brig Vikram Kumar, Chairman APS Ratnuchak accompanied by the Principal Sonal Sharma. The students and staff took the “Swachhta Shapath” under the guidance of the school Captain. Later, “Swachhta Awarness Rally” was flagged off by the Chairman and Principal, APS Ratnuchak. The students carried impressive banners on creating awareness for keeping the surroundings clean and also distributed pamphlets in Hindi and English in Ratnuchak and Purmandal Morh area.
To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, all the staff members of the KV Sunjuwan assembled in the Vidyalaya campus to intensify the already launched Cleanliness Drive by them. The students of the Vidyalaya also rendered a helping hand in the activity. The drive started with garlanding the photo of Mahtama Gandhi, the father of the nation. Bhajans were also sung by the staff members and students.
To pay homage to one of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite tenets – Cleanliness is next to Godliness, Army Public School Domana today launched ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ from the school premises. The programme began with special assembly in which Commander, Chenab Brigade and Chairman, Army Public School, Domana, was the chief guest. Various co-curricular activities were organized to mark the occasion. The teachers and students cleaned their class rooms, labs, library, playground and surrounding areas of the School.
Government High School, Sangrampur, also launched a cleanliness drive on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. The drive was launched by the staff of the school under the supervision of Headmaster NJ Tikoo and Sarpanch Ashwani Lunar along with Panchayat members. The villagers also participated whole heartedly in the drive.
JK Convent School, Subash Nagar, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. A debate competition on life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi was also held. Rohit Bains, Chairman of the School and Shifali Khajuria, Principal, Sohan Singh Soni threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Senior Leader PDP, Ravinder Sharma, Director RRaSh Motion Pictures distributed prizes among the winners.
In accordance with PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, MIER Higher Secondary School, KC Morh, Ramgarh also held a cleanliness drive. The campaign was launched by the Principal of the school, Manjit Kour, in which teachers and students participated. An awareness rally was also carried out by the students, followed by seminar on the Gandhi Jayanti and Cleanliness.
Shiksha Niketan also organized ‘Swachh Bharat’ programme. Principal Rameshwar Mengi along with staff members and students participated in this programme. The students presented colorful skits on the theme ‘Save environment’.
Government High School, Fazlabad, tehsil Surankote, district Poonch celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Students and staff members in their speeches highlighted the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and aware the villagers and students to make the India clean. After the programme a sanitation event started from the school to surrounding area of village. Headmaster Government High School Fazlabad Ashok Kumar was the chief guest and Master Mohammad Altaf acted as stage secretary.
Indra-Sagar Secondary School, Rajpura, started a cleanliness drive in Rajpura area in connection with “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” launched by PM, Narendra Modi on Gandhi Jayanti. The drive was conducted in collaboration with Mission Parivar India, an NGO. The team removed all sort of garbage, bushes and other unhygienic material including dust and polythene from the road side, streets and in front of the houses.
Rich Harvest School Bari Brahmana celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra under the supervision of Ruchi Charak, Trustee, Dr Shivani Singh, Principal and other staff members along with students. The school organized a special assembly to mark the occasion. Cultural programmes were also held on the occasion.
On Gandhi Jayanti, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Jammu, organised cleanliness drive in the school campus under “Swachh Bharat, Swach Vidyalaya Campaign”. Teaching as well as non teaching staff cleaned different areas within the school campus. Principal, RK Dhar and NCC cadets of the school also participated in the cleanliness drive.
‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign commenced at Jammu Sanskriti School, Jammu, to strength the call given by Prime Minister of India for a “Swachh Bharat” as a movement to realize the dream of Mahatma Gandhi of Clean India. The school planned varied activities and events in the area including the school campus, as a part of national cleanliness drive.
Cambridge Public High School, Paloura celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a symposium on “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in the present scenario”. Various students participated in the symposium and expressed their views on the topic. Favourite bhajans of Mahatma Gandhi were also sung by the staff members and students. Principal of the school, felicitated the students who claimed 1st three positions in the symposium.
The management, staff and students of Dewan Devi Play Way/Higher Secondary School, Rajpura, paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahudur Shastri. The students of secondary wing delivered speeches to enlighten the students about the three principles of both these leaders i.e. peace, truthfulness and non-violence. As a part of the “Swastha Bharat Abhiyan”, the management, staff and students of the school led the exercise for replaying the debt owed to Mahatma Gandhi by gifting him with clean India.
On the eve of 145th Gandhi Jayanti, management, staff and students of Aryan Public Senior Secondary School, RS Pura started a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Signature Drive. On the occasion banner making, slogan writing and drawing completions regarding cleanliness were organised in which large number of students participated. Later on a rally in the locality was also organized.
Bhartia Vidaya Mandir, Talab Tillo launched cleanliness driver ‘Swaach Bharat Abhiyan’ on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today. Teachers and students participated in the drive.
‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ was launched at Sanatan Dharam Kanya Vidyalaya, Jullaka Mohallah, in which Principal, staff and students participated. The participants cleaned Ram Talai Jullaka Mohallah and its adjoining area. The programme was supervised by ML Vidyarthi, secretary and Sat Pal Singh, treasurer.
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Heritage Strings – ‘School of Rock’, Bakshi Nagar donates twenty cartons of Mineral Water bottles for the flood victims of Jammu. Director, Heritage Strings, Anmol Amla, along with his young and dynamic students donated water bottles for the flood victims of Jammu. A prayer session was also conducted on the occasion. Students also took pledge to help flood effected people.
In connection with Gandhi Jayanti, GK Institute of Training and Research conducted an awareness campaign on Swachh Bharat at Nagrota. A door-to-door campaign was conducted in the rural area and people were educated regarding the benefits of cleanliness in their area. All the students participated in the campaign and pledged to continue to keep their surroundings clean.
Surya Mahashakti High School, Bantalab celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by launching a cleanliness drive in the school premises. The students, staff members besides managing director of the school, Amita Devi, took active part in cleaning the classrooms, almirahs, fans and even the streets. All of them also took oath for maintaining the habit of cleaning the environment in future.
Under Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched on Gandhi Jayanti, the management of RM Public School including chairman, Rameshwar Mengi along with trustee, Reeta Mengi and principal, Ravinder Kour, swept themselves the school premises. The Staff and students also joined them and cleaned the entire periphery and surrounding of the school including the main road of Sainik Colony.
Mount Litera Zee School organized Hindi poem recitation competition and drawing competition on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. During the programme, students while laying emphasis on Hindi language display their skills in drawing and poem recitation.
