JAMMU, Jan 31: PHE Workers Welfare Association (PHEWWA) has demanded that pending wages of the PHE daily rated and consolidated workers be cleared without any delay and all the workers engaged after 1994 also be regularized.
Talking to media-persons here today provincial president Bakshi Singh and general secretary Subash Verma urged upon the higher authorities to clear the pending wages of the PHE daily rated/ consolidated/ casual workers. They said that even the wages of many workers are pending for the last 22 months and they have been forced to face starvation. They further alleged that it has now become practice in the PHE Department to keep employees waiting for months together for the wages. They strongly demanded that wages of all the workers be paid before 5th of every month.
It was stressed upon the authorities to regularize all the daily rated/ consolidated workers engaged after 1994 and a definite policy be framed for the same. They said even some of the employees have completed 15-18 years of service but they have not been regularized. The trade union leaders also demanded that many employees were waiting for their promotion since long and DPC of all cadre be conducted without any more delay.
They pointed out many representations have been given to the Chief Engineer and the Minister concerned as well in this connection and if the authorities failed to act, the employees will have only option to intensify agitation and launch hunger strike. The Association has resolved to launch hunger strike from February 2 at BC Road office complex, they maintained.
