UDHAMPUR, Jan 2: Senior Trade Union leader from Jammu province, Som Nath has demanded that J&K Government must clear the liability of the Daily Rated Workers (DRWs) worth over Rs 450 crores and solve their genuine long pending issues without any more delay.
While addressing a press conference here today, Som Nath strongly criticized the attitude of UT Administration. He said there are 61000 daily wagers in the different departments, suffering from more than 25 years. So many daily wagers retired in different departments but they are returned to their homes empty handed. The liability of daily wagers backlog amounts to Rs 450 crore and it shall be kept in the coming Budget due to which the needs of the daily wagers shall be resolved and they shall come out of starvation. The employees are suffering from the last 10 years and waiting for justice.
Som Nath appealed to the UT Govt that thousands of PHE workers still are suffering for their livelihood and they are at the verge of starvation. So, intervene in the matter and solve the genuine demands as soon as possible.
Referring to the issues Som Nath demanded regularisation of CP/ITI/ land case workers who have completed seven years of service; release of pending wages of overt 60 months of the PHE workers and separate head of wages should be kept in the coming State Budget so that timely wages to workers may be given; implement Minimum Wages Act in J&K; remove shortage of staff as at present only single worker is working where 4-5 workers are required and moreover, hundreds of workers are needed to run new Water Supply Schemes.
As per official record 1778 workers are shortfall in the department and these positions be filled up. The Government must release 3% DA of the employees and retirees before Diwali. He also demanded time bound promotion of the employees as many are facing stagnation for the last over 10 years.
Vijay Sharma, Suraj Parkash, Dinesh Kesar, Ganesh Chand and others also accompanied Som Nath during conference.
