NEW DELHI: A day after actor Irrfan khan’s statement on slaughtering of animal as traditional practice of sacrifice was slammed by Muslim clerics who asked him to focus on his work instead of making his own interpretation of religious customs, the ‘Pan Singh Tomar’ actor has come up in his defence saying that clerics don’t scare him.

The actor on his twitter handle said, “Clerics don’t scare me. Thank God I don’t live in a country governed by religious contractors,”  He later also clarified that for him religion is about personal introspection, source of compassion and not for stereotyping and fanaticism. In another tweet the actor wrote, “Pls Bhaiyon, who r upset with my statement, either u r not ready to introspect or u r in a hurry 2 reach 2 a conclusion.”

“For me religion is abt personal introspection, it’s a source for compassion, wisdom and moderation not for stereotyping n fanaticism,” he tweeted.

The 49-year-old actor had passed his comments while promoting his upcoming film Madari at an event in Jaipur.  He had questioned the ‘true spirit’ of fasting during the holy month of Ramzan.  The actor also questioned over ‘silence’ of Muslims against the issue of terrorism.(Agencies)
