Close shave for DMU passengers

JAMMU, May 17: Passengers on board DMU train from Udhampur to Pathankot had a narrow escape when sparking was observed from tyres of the train as soon as it left Jammu Railway Station at about 6 pm today.
Reports said the train driver and some passengers noticed sparking from the tyres of the DMU train just as it had left the platform at Jammu Railway Station for Pathankot. The train had reached Jammu from Udhampur.
Alert driver immediately applied full brakes and stopped the train. The passengers boarded off.
The technical experts of the Railways rushed to the spot and ratified the snag, which had led to the sparking.
The train later left for Pathankot after about half an hour of repairs.
SSP Railways Shiv Kumar Sharma also reached the spot along with senior officials and engineers of the Railways.
Sources said a major tragedy was averted with timely brakes applied by the train driver on observing the sparks from the tyres.
