JAMMU, May 22: All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) described the prestigious Tawi Lake Project as lifeline of Jammu tourism industry and said its sudden closure has shocked Jammuites.
In a press statement, president AJHLA Inderjeet Khajuira said shelving of Tawi Artificial lake is a big blow to the tourism industry and held groupism in the State BJP responsible for the same.
“A group of BJP legislators including Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control  have assured early completion of the Tawi lake project in utter disregard to the CMs statement, another group within BJP  has advocated the beautification of the Tawi banks on the pattern of Sabarmati River banks in Gujrat model of Narender Modi. Whereas, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh had a meeting with Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti requesting her for extending financial assistance for the completion of prestigious Tawi Lake project to which the Union Minister gave full assurance to cooperate”, he added.
He stated that the traders have pinned all hopes on the commissioning of Tawi lake project, adding that AJHLA has plan to perform Haridwar type evening ‘Aarti’ everyday on the banks of Tawi popularly known as Suryaputri–daughter of Sun.
Khajuria said some Kashmir centric leaders have fake apprehensions that the promotion of tourism in Jammu would affect the tourism potential of Kashmir, where as the reality stands that influx of tourists would increase with the development of Jammu.
Exhorting warning to the PDP-BJP coalition Government to desist from taking biased decisions detrimental to the interest of Jammu region, Mr Khajuria said that Jammu people stand united under a common platform to fight for the right and justice, and if injustice is thrust upon Jammuites, the people enmass would come on streets.
