CM takes BSF to task

JAMMU, Mar 28: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today dropped hints that three militants, who struck at Tarnah bridge and then attacked an Army camp at Janglote in Kathua district, had come from Pakistan by crossing the International Border (IB).
Virtually taking the BSF to task for the lapse, Omar tweeted: “the BSF needs to take a look at vulnerable areas and plug these gaps because these militants haven’t given up and we can’t let them succeed. The ease with which militants exploited gaps in the fence to cross the International Border is a matter of grave concern’’.
However, Omar lauded the swift and coordinated response of Army, police and CRPF as compared to September 26, 2013 terror attack at Samba/Hiranagar saying the response has been markedly better compared to 5 months ago.
“Militants had come very heavily armed and clearly planned to cause massive havoc. Plans that they were unable to carry out at all. I greatly appreciate the response of the Army and police in containing the fallout to the initial casualties and defeating the evil designs,’’ the Chief Minister said.
He confirmed that two civilians were killed and three injured in the attack. He said the civilian death occurred as the militants had advantage of surprise.
Condemning the heinous act of terrorists killing and injuring the civilians, Omar extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and expressed solidarity with them.
He prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.
Meanwhile, the authorities today handed over ex-gratia relief of Rs 1 lakh to the family of Amarjeet Singh, who was killed by the militants, at Vijaypur. They also assured the family of a job under SRO 43.
