CMAT 2019 to be Conducted by NTA; Know about the Changes Expected

Thinking of management as a career, the very first thing which pops up in your head is to take an entrance test-CMAT, a benchmark for any aspiring management student. CMAT is most crucial as well as the most feared at the same time for the candidates.

CMAT is a computer-based management entrance test which is conducted on national-level for the aspirants who wish to pursue MBA/PGDM in the AICTE approved B-schools.

This year the body of National Testing Agency (NTA) is going to conduct the CMAT 2019 exam, approved by the Union Cabinet in November 2017 which will be chaired by a member appointed by MHRD. From 2019, NTA will be conducting all the major examinations which were under CBSE and AICTE.

Need for NTA

On the pattern of advanced countries, a specialized body in India National Testing Agency (NTA) has been set up in pursuance of the Finance Minister’s Budget speech 2017-18. It is going to be a relief to CBSE, AICTE and other agencies from conducting the entrance examinations.

The objective to bring National Testing Agency (NTA) is to enhance the quality difference in the process of the examination. NTA will majorly focus on the scientific test design and research with experts, researchers, test item writers, statisticians and education specialists. From the next year onwards, NTA will organise entrance tests which were earlier under AICTE and CBSE and NTA will use highly secured and encrypted IT software to ensure no leakages or malpractice happens.

NTA will open centres across India from August 2018 onwards in order to train candidates to understand CMAT Test Taking Strategy.

What to expect for CMAT 2019?

With the introduction of the new exam conducting body, the aspirants were baffled and expecting changes but the pattern, syllabus, examination fee etc are same. There are no major changes. Since management exams including CMAT never have any definite syllabus, the candidates were mostly concerned with the change of syllabus, but the notification from NTA has announced that there will be no change.  To perform well in test, candidates can solve mock tests or previous year questions papers because the pattern on the exam will be the same. Moreover, there is no change in the language of the question paper. It will be in English language only.

The aspirants were also expecting a change in the registration fee but there is even no change in the examination fee of the CMAT 2019. The registration fee is Rs. 1400 for General/OBC category and Rs. 700 for SC/ST/PWD/ Female category. And the application form will be in the digital format only. Moreover, the selection form of the entrance exam will be the same as it was for CMAT 2018.

Another thing, which was grabbing the attention of the candidates, is that last year the exam was conducted on January 20, 2018 (Saturday) and recently NTA has announced the date of the exam i.e., 27th January, 2019 (Sunday). Since, NTA will conduct CMAT 2019, aspirants were worried if they need to change their preparation strategies as the level of difficulty of the entrance exam is unpredictable since the NTA is a new appointed exam conducting agency.Another, expected change will be that if the number of aspirants is huge then there is a possibility that the examination will be conducted in the window of more than one day.
