2 die, 223 new cases in J&K

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Nov 18: Two persons died of COVID-19 and 223 tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir today while 23 fresh cases were reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh.
One person succumbed to the virus in Jammu region where 32 cases were registered while one COVID casualty and 191 cases were recorded in Kashmir.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Reasi Dr Rajiv Sharma and 11 students in General Zoarawar Singh Memorial Government Degree College Reasi today tested positive for COVID-19.
A total of 145 students were subjected to testing for pathogen in the degree college and 11 of them tested positive.
District Magistrate Reasi Charandeep Singh has ordered closure of the College till November 25 for contact tracing, testing and sanitization.
The positive students have been isolated and asked to quarantine at home.
Meanwhile, a 63-year-old man hailing from Khanpur Nagrota in Jammu district succumbed to the virus in the Military Hospital Satwari today taking COVID toll in Jammu region to 2182 and Jammu district to 1150.
Among 32 cases in Jammu, 11 were reported from Jammu district along and nine in Rajouri.
No fresh cases were registered in Udhampur, Samba, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts.
As against 32 cases, 18 recovered from the virus leaving behind number of active positive cases in Jammu region to 257.
Out of 23 fresh COVID positive cases in the UT of Ladakh, 19 were recorded in Leh district and four in Kargil.
Ladakh now has 206 active positive cases including 197 in Leh and nine in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 191 fresh cases of COVID-19.
Those who tested positive include 74 from Srinagar, 54 from Baramulla, 11 from Budgam, 19 from Pulwama, 15 from Kupwara, 1 from Anantnag, 2 from Bandipora, 14 from Ganderbal and 1 from Shopian.
The cases in Kashmir division have reached 210,116 including 206,515 recoveries and 2,277 deaths.
The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,581 including 1,324 from Kashmir division.
With 153 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 328,783 which is 98.20 percent of the total cases.
