SRINAGAR, Nov 15: National Conference provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani today said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s efforts for flood victim rehabilitation were exemplary and National Conference would continue to work with utmost zeal and dedication till the last flood affected victim is rehabilitated.
Addressing workers’ meetings at various places in Srinagar ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Mr Wani said that National Conference was committed to the welfare of the flood victims and would continue to treat this humanitarian issue above and beyond the realm of partisan politics. “Unfortunately parties like the PDP have fallen short of the basic expectations of having some empathy for thousands of devastated people and have chosen the temptation of political rehabilitation over flood victim rehabilitation,” he alleged.
“While Rs 44,000 crore proposed Relief package submitted by the State Government to the Central Government remains hanging in New Delhi, we laud the efforts of the Omar Abdullah Government in ensuring that the displaced flood victims get a rent allowance for six months so that they are shielded from the oncoming harsh winters. This is a commendable step and will be of great help to the flood affected families whose houses were damaged”, the NC provincial president added.
Nasir Aslam Wani also asked the District Administration to ensure the implementation of this initiative of rent allowance of six months without any delay so that the flood victims can get some reprieve. “There should be no procedural or operational delay in dispensing this rent allowance and the District Administration should ensure that the compensation is delivered to the displaced victims in a transparent, effective and time-bound manner”, Wani said.
