JAMMU, Mar 28: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today accused both Central and State Governments of their failure in consolidating the gains made during earlier PDP- Congress regime in the State which has once again shaken the faith of the people in democratic institutions.
The party in its General Council meeting here today passed a resolution to this effect. It said the exclusive dependence of the State Government on official repression is now an established fact of people’s life. It alleged the people are subjected to cruelest forms of treatment and the reports that some youngsters having faced worst official repression and torture under the present Government, have been pushed to pick up the guns again, are highly alarming.
The party appealed to youngsters to overcome their disillusionment, give democratic methods more time to assert await a peaceful change that can be brought about only through a wise use of their vote and the power to make political parties accountable and be part of the change.
The Party expressed its serious concern over the mounting governance deficit that has pushed the State into a virtual whirlpool of corruption, maladministration, unemployment, alienation and despair.
Maintaining that unemployment remains a major issue among the youth and the present Government in spite of the fact, that ban on Government jobs which existed during PDP- Congress regime, has been lifted, the State Government has miserably failed on this front also.
It further said that NHPC which has been milking the power potential of the State with just crumbs thrown to the State is not inclined even to provide a fair share of employment to the youth of J&K and demanded that the terms of agreement with Corporation should be immediately re-negotiated and emphasis be laid on providing maximum jobs to the locals and the State should be facilitated to take up the new power projects.
The Party takes serious view of the complete reversal of the journey of hope that the State had embarked upon in the wake of 2002 historical elections and alleged that the political process initiated and CBMs made by then Government has suffered a setback in the present regime.
It demands immediate release of youth, political prisoners arrested on flimsy grounds and withdrawal of cases against them.
Maintaining that State is incomplete without the active participation of Kashmiri Pandits in social, political and economic affairs, it resolved to work for their dignified return and expressed concern over the failure of Government to implement the PM’s employment package.
On PoK refugees, the PDP said that it is a matter of anxiety that after over 65 years of nearly uninterrupted Congress and NC rule their problems have remained unsolved. The Party urged the Union Government to take cognizance of the humanitarian problems faced by them after being displaced from their home sin Pakistan.
