Cocaine worth Rs 300 cr seized

JAMMU/RAMBAN, Oct 1: In their war against narcotics, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ramban achieved a major success after the men in Khakhi seized a big consignment of 30 kg of cocaine from two neighbouring Punjab based men travelling in a car. The seizure is believed to have saved the lives of several youth.
Sources informed that on specific inputs a special Naka (checking) was put in place at Railway Chowk in Banihal late last night on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Mohita Sharma.
Cops at the Naka while checking vehicles intercepted a car of Innova make bearing registration number HR2W-4925 coming from Kashmir and moving towards Jammu with two men travelling in it.
During search of the vehicle, cops found some 30 kg cocaine like substance in small packets.
Sources informed that three kg of the narcotic substance was found hidden on the top of the vehicle and 27 kg was recovered from the luggage of the narco-smugglers travelling in the car.
Earlier, the smugglers had tried to escape when signaled by the cops to stop but they were chased and subsequently arrested.
Sources said that the seized contraband was high-grade cocaine believed to be smuggled from across the border and was being transported from Kashmir to Punjab. They informed that earlier the narcotic material was taken as heroin but after proper verification it came out to be cocaine.
“The seized narcotic substance is believed to be of Rs. 300 crore approximately in international black market,” SSP Mohita Sharma told reporters during a press conference today.
She informed that prima facie the case seemed to have cross border ramifications and terror angle to it for which teams have sent to probe further linkages.
ASP Ramban, Gourav Mahajan; DySP Headquarters, Om Parkash; SDPO Banihal, Ajay Jamwal and other police officers were also present in the press conference.
Earlier Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh had said that the successful operation by Ramban police led by SSP Mohita Sharma has busted a big narco-terror module and seized a huge consignment of narcotic substance.
SSP Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), Raj Kumar when contacted informed that many youth have been saved from the evil designs of narcotic smugglers by the successful operation by Ramban Police which seized a big consignment of cocaine.
Station House Officer (SHO) Banihal, Mohammad Afzal Wani identified the arrested narcotic smugglers as Sarabjeet Singh of Jalandhar and Honey Basra of Phagwara in Punjab.
Police sources informed that a case in FIR number 242/2023 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal in this regard and investigation started.
