Col Mahan asks farmers to take benefits of Modi Govt flagship programme

KATHUA, Dec 14: In a unique initiative aimed at empowering farmers and promoting horticulture, the District Horticulture Department organized an awareness camp-cum-workshop at Mahanpur under Agriculture block Basohli.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, prominent citizens, and dignitaries, including Col (retd) Mahan Singh , Chairman DDC Kathua, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The workshop was also attended by Darshan Kumar, MLA Basohli; Rajinder Singh, DDC Member; Sonu Gupta; Shanti Bhushan; Chief Horticulture Officer, Kathua Ashwani Sharma; Block Horticulture Officer, Sanjeev Andotra and officers and staff from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments.
A highlight of the event was the display of stalls showcasing local products and value-added produce to provide valuable information to the participants. Progressive farmers shared their experiences and insights regarding agriculture and horticulture practices. They also raised concerns about challenges such as marketing issues, authenticity of seeds and plants, water scarcity, and the need for advanced technical knowledge.
Addressing the gathering, Col Mahan Singh (retd) urged farmers to take full advantage of flagship programmes like the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) initiated by the Modi Government. He emphasized that these schemes have been designed to enhance farmers’ incomes and transform traditional farming practices into modern, technology-driven agriculture.
The DDC Chairman called for a proactive approach from the field staff to ensure increased awareness and support for farmers in adopting innovative farming methods. He further highlighted the need for Government intervention to address issues like the menace of monkeys and damage caused by wild animals, urging the authorities to introduce effective schemes and preventive measures.
On this occasion, plants were distributed to farmers to encourage horticulture development in the region. The event concluded with a renewed sense of commitment among participants to leverage government schemes for their benefit and embrace modern farming techniques to secure a prosperous future.
