KATHUA, Nov 25: In a significant step toward empowering rural youth and promoting skill development, Col (retd) Mahan Singh, Chairman DDC Kathua, inaugurated two Tailoring and Cutting Centres at Khajura (Draman) and Hutt in the underdeveloped block of Sheetal Nagari. These centres, established under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of NHPC SEWA II Project, aim to train over 100 candidates, predominantly young women, in tailoring and cutting skills.
The initiative is being executed in collaboration with the NGO Good Deed Foundation, which is affiliated with Shahi Exports Ltd., a leading readymade garment export house based in Faridabad, Delhi-NCR. The project is envisioned to empower local youth, especially women, by equipping them with practical skills to enhance their employability and economic independence.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of NHPC General Manager, Madan Lal Sharma along with his team, ex Sarpanch of Draman Madhu Bala, Sub Yubkaran, Vandna Bala, Shiv Kumar, and other dignitaries. It is noteworthy that a similar training centre was inaugurated at Plahi just a few days earlier, reflecting the sustained efforts to enhance skill development across the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Col Mahan Singh emphasized the pivotal role of skill development in transforming lives, particularly in rural and underdeveloped areas. He highlighted that initiatives like these tailoring and cutting centres not only empower individuals by equipping them with market-ready skills but also pave the way for economic self-reliance and community upliftment.
Stressing the importance of women’s empowerment, he remarked that training young women would create a ripple effect, uplifting entire families and fostering a culture of growth and independence. “Skill development is the cornerstone of a self-reliant and progressive society, and we are committed to ensuring that no talent goes untapped,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Col Mahan Singh inspected the ongoing construction work on the Darkodi-Hutt road. He emphasized the importance of timely completion of this vital project to improve connectivity for residents of the area.
The DDC Chairman also visited the Veterinary Centre at Shara in Sandhar Panchayat, where he reviewed the existing facilities and noted concerns regarding the lack of drinking water and electricity connections. He assured the community of his commitment to resolving these issues at the earliest.
